Creating the Coastal Cowgirl Decor and Design Trend in Your Living Room, Beth Dutton Style
Welcome to the second roomof the Dutton Beach House series! If you've followed along, you know we're designing a beach house for Beth Dutton's next adventure as the Yellowstone TV series comes to a close this winter. We're going to bring a touch of the Wild West to a coastal living room and trade in classic coastal beach house decor for something with a little more grit and glamour - a la Beth Dutton.
If you, like Beth, love the rugged charm of the ranch and the breezy allure of the coast in your living room, get ready as we merge them cohesively into the Coastal Cowgirl home aesthetic. Saddle up as we mix and match, layer textures, and create a living room as captivating as the open range!
Using Your Color Palette to Incorporate the Coastal Cowgirl Aesthetic
Bringing the coastal cowgirl trend to life in your home is equal parts cowboy, coastal, rustic, and boho, all perfectly balanced to reflect your unique personality. The trend is growing amongst designers and bringing just the right amount of each decor style to your design is key. Whether it's more heavily traditional western or coastal design, starting with the color palette will get you going in the right direction.
Classic coastal interior design is rooted in sandy neutrals, nautical blues, soft teals and yellows, with warm, easy-going whites. Of course, this comes in many variations that come together to reflect your personal style; here's a palette we love to get the coastal inspiration flowing.
Traditional Western interior design is grounded in earthy tones like brown, tan, and deep reds with saturated accents like turquoise or deep blues. Styling your palette with accent colors is a great way to add some modern western flair to your space. Here is a western palette, inspired by those moody skies.
Bringing these two palettes together in a cohesive way is the perfect approach to bring the Coastal Cowgirl home decor trend to your home. The palettes share many color elements, including shades of blue, warm whites, and neutrals and there is an infinite amount of ways to bring this chic aesthetic to your home.
Get the Coastal Cowgirl Look With Cowboy Inspired Decor and Accents
Our first living room space has as seemingly neutral color palette at first, but the more you see it, the more those dusty tones really pop and add depth. We particularly love how the teal and coral tones from the coastal aesthetic have been adjusted to make the space feel ranch-ready. The wood ceiling and floor offer a warmth that mirrors those Montana trees, which will have Beth Dutton feeling right at home.
Want this subtle look in your home? Keep that neutral base palette in your floors and walls and bring soft colors in through wall art, throw pillows, throws, and other decor. The Damask Faux Suede Pillow paired with West Elm's Faux Mohair Ombre Throw with fringe accent are a match made in heaven. For artwork, this print is everything we'd hope for - the watercolor look gives an airy coastal vibe while the Montana mountain range scene brings out the west.
Our next inspiring living room features a crisp white coastal aesthetic with shades of beige, wood tones, and deep neutrals for contrast. We particularly love the graphic print area rug. The pattern, which features deep denim blues, reds, and oranges gives a sophisticated pop of color to the space.
What we really love about this space is how it showcases the approach of adding a few statement pieces to your space to create something truly unique. The wood furniture, jute baskets, and woven artwork are all rustic accents perfect for infusing a western decor.
Our last featured space is grounded with a neutral color palette of creams, leathers, and wood. Coastal style white shiplap walls create a backdrop for some truly western details to shine. The teals and warm beiges come from both a western decor palette and the coastal aesthetic - perfectly merging the styles.
One element we love most? The rustic reclaimed wood beams that are mirrored in the natural tree coffee table below - and even in that gorgeous mantle! The wood is perfectly contrasted by the softness of the worn-in leather on the sofas and the dual area rugs. Overall the balance in this space has us dreaming of cool nights sitting fireside with our favorite whiskey!
We hope these spaces inspire you to bring Beth Dutton-esque style into your coastal living room to cowgirl it up a little!
